NYFW: Our Favourite Collections

Happy Sunday everyone!

Last week we talked our favourite street style looks from New York fashion week, so it's only fair to round up the week with 3 of our favourite shows and collections each. Believe us, it was so hard to narrow it down to only 3 each, so read on to see what we were loving for NYFW!
 

Kate Spade 

A rainbow of colours and embellishments made up Kate Spade's S/S17 collection. As well as their holiday wardrobe inspired clothing, I fell in love with their accessories. As a tassel embellishment lover this collection was an instant win. In true Kate Spade style many pints and patterns featured in the show from feminine floral to fun stripes making this collection guaranteed to inject some personality into your wardrobe.

Vera Wang
 Vera Wang’s monochrome collection added some stylish edge to NY fashion week. The off-the-shoulder silhouette trend that is circulating the fashion world was prominent in the collection, the peplum waist also made a few appearances. This collection stood out to me as many other shows featured vibrant and neon colours making this collection somewhat more striking, and who can go wrong with monochrome?

Michael Costello 

Michael Costello has come a long way since his project runway days, his Spring Summer Collection theme was “Midnight Botanical Bash” the rich colour scheme of deep purple, red and green bought life to his theme. The ultra feminine collection included lace bodices, flowing fabric and floral embellishment; the collection was complete with oversized flower crowns. This collection will make anyone want to up their evening wardrobe.





Rebecca Minkoff
I’ve loved Rebecca Minkoff's bags for years now and only really looked at her show because of this, but I’m so glad I did!  Her use of staple pieces and classic shapes in dark colours is brilliant (despite it being a spring/summer collection - if you’re like me and wear black all year round, then you’ll approve too!) as you can really imagine yourself wearing these clothing and bag designs. Minkoff used the backdrop of a SoHo street for her catwalk collection and paid homage to New York using the personalisation of leather jackets which was such a cute idea.

 

J.Crew 
J.Crew showed their signature style in this season’s collection, with menswear-esque tailored shirts, wrap-around skirts and relaxed, draped material in a white, blue, pink and khaki toned palette. I personally love this muted palette with pops of bright pink (those pom-pom bags are so cute!) and bold use of denim in the first look. They have the balance just right for mixing up tailored and relaxed styles, making this collection ultra ‘shoppable’. Models included family and friends of those who work at the company and shown in the informal style that J.Crew love, in a relaxed presentation rather than a catwalk.

 

Marchesa

Marchesa are well known for their rose-tinted, fairytale vibe dresses and whilst not exactly a clothing brand anyone can pull off for day-to-day wear, but one that I always look out for when red-carpet season rolls around. Marchesa always create beautifully detailed and feminine collections, and this season’s is no exception, with ethereal and subtle colours in tulle (lots of it) and embellishment. Inspired from a "dawn til’ dusk” colour palette, all pieces in the collection follow this pattern of the rising sun: starting with iridescent pinks and ending in black.

Now that New York fashion week has come to an end, fashion's busiest month continues with the runway shows and presentations now in full swing in London, and we can't wait to share with you our favourite collections from some of the best British designers.

OUR SUMMER BUCKET LIST

Happy Friday! Today's post is a personal one from us, showing you what plans we're making for the summer.

On Tuesday we completed our final presentations of the year, meaning for us that summer has officially started. This year's summer break will be an opportunity for us to research and prepare for our final year in University, as well as relaxing.

This year we decided to create a Bucket List to make sure that we take advantage of our time. To see what we have planned for this summer, keep reading!

1. Travel
For us this doesn't necessarily mean jetting off to a different country, we plan on discovering more places closer to home. London and Brighton are at the top of our list as well as S showing K around West Wales as the place she calls home.

2. Art/ Culture
We feel that immersing ourselves within art and culture is something that we should do more often for our creative development, so this summer we have some museum visits planned, starting with the Alexander McQueen 'Savage Beauty' exhibition at the V&A in London. We also love the idea of outdoor cinemas, and with the Luna Cinema coming to Cardiff Castle this year, we can't wait to experience it!

3. Live Music
Whether it's making last minute plans to go to a festival (we love the look of Festival No. 6 in Portmeirion!) or just seeing more gigs, we want to take more time to experience live music, and look out for emerging talent to add to our summer playlists!

4. Creativity
We want to use this time over the summer to develop our creative skills, from cooking and trying out new recipes to getting back into sketching and illustrating. We also want to get our craft on and give some of our Pinterest boards some love, trying out some DIY projects and bringing some of our interior design boards to life.

STREET FOOD CIRCUS

Last weekend we took some time out of our crazy busy work schedules to visit Street Food Circus, Street Food Cardiff's latest offering in the trend with our housemates: Because of the Times and half of Turner Turner to seek out some foodie treats.

Situated at the site that No Fit State circus use, in-between elevated train lines in and out of the city centre, the theme of the event fit really well, and it felt like you could've been in Camden, not minutes away from the centre of Cardiff!

 

 The site was decorated like a carnival circus, with string lights, pallets and quirky umbrellas, a huge circus tent filled with seating, a bar (of course) and a huge disco ball. We loved the use of wood across the site too, with all these brightly painted boards to catch your eye.

 

K opted for a gorgeous falafel wrap from the Hemp Hut after the ever-popular Hang Fire Smokehouse ran out of their delicious pulled pork, and we all couldn't resist the smell coming from the churros stall: Mr Churros, having these treats covered in cinnamon and sugar and coated in chocolate.

If you're in Cardiff, be sure to check out this amazing collection of local food in an amazing location, running every weekend until the end of June. All details of the event, including a list of sellers can be found on their website here. Our tip is to turn up early-ish to avoid missing out on your favourite food and soak up the atmosphere from inside the tent.  We'll definitely be back to sample the amazing Hang Fire Smokehouse's food and some more of those delicious churros!

With both of us being huge Emma Bridgewater fans, we couldn’t not include something from her collection in this list! This cute mustard vase is the perfect accompaniment for a few spring blooms to treat your mum this Mothers Day.

Living in Wales (and with S speaking fluent Welsh) we wanted to include something a little more original and unique. These handmade enamel plates from Buddug are a perfect addition to any Welsh (or non-Welsh!) home.

For our final gift idea, we dedicate this cute Seed Box to all the green-fingered mothers out there, like K’s! Loving gardening and all things organised for the outdoors, this gift would be perfect!
