SUMMER GETAWAY: Holiday Essentials

When it comes to summer holidays and travelling, there's always those few items you can't live without, and make travelling that much easier. To carry on our Summer Getaway theme this month, we thought we'd put together a little essentials guide for the different destinations we mentioned here and here.

Bright Lights, Big City

Any city break will require walking, and a lot of it! New York is definitely a city that benefits you wandering around the streets, so be prepared with flat shoes, a map and this cute Instax camera will give you the perfect polaroids. An extra battery-boost for your phone will always come in handy too, as you never know how long your battery will last. A roomy shopper bag (with a zip!) is essential to keep all of your belongings safely stowed away, and will allow some extra room for some shopping buys too! On hot summer days in the city, we like to be prepared with these face blotting pads from Tatcha to keep the shine at bay!

1.  Blotting Papers - Tatcha
2.  Instax Mini 8 - Fujifilm
3.  Emergency Phone Charger - Juice Cube
4.  Tan Leather Loafers - New Look
5.  Structured Shopper Bag - ASOS
6.  City Map / Local Guide

Beach Break

The perfect beach holiday wouldn't be complete without a pair of comfy sandals (we love these jelly-shoe inspired ones from New Look), sunglasses and a big floppy hat. We also suggest taking a brightly coloured beach towel like this gorgeous one from H&M, some reading material (whether it's Vogue or Pride & Prejudice), and of course, don't forget the suncream!

1.  Sunglasses - ASOS
2.  Beach Towel - H&M
3.  Reading Material
4.  Sandals - New Look
5.  Crochet Straw Hat - Topshop
6.  Sun Lotion - Boots

Staycation

A staycation for us is all about practicality. Be sure to take a light jacket or raincoat and an umbrella while out and about, and a cute rucksack to store them in if the sun does come out. When the weather is on our side, a picnic is a must, and with this cute set from BHS, you'll be all sorted! Trainers or a pair of comfy shoes are essential too, as well as a good compact camera that will take stunning photos in any light.

1.  Nike Internationalist Trainers - ASOS
2.  Picnic Basket - BHS
3.  Rucksack - Warehouse
4.  Lightweight Duster Coat - Topshop
5.  Compact Camera - Canon
6.  Umbrella - Cath Kidston

Big Summer Blowout - Party Holiday

A party holiday requires thoughtful packing, as you want to look great without taking too many outfit options. We're loving brights for the summer season, so this Triangl bikini with black lining is the perfect choice paired with some bright nail colours and some pink hair chalk. To cover up in the days, these lace pallazo-style trousers are the perfect combination of chic and laid back. Looking after your skin on holiday is always so important, especially if you're partying non-stop, so this Liz Earle cleanser will get all your party make up (glitter and all) off in no time, leaving your skin feeling fully refreshed.

1.  Bright Bikini - Triangl
2.  Lace Pallazo Cover-Up Pants - River Island
3.  Essie Nail Polishes: Strut Your Stuff & Ruffles and Feathers
4.  Mini Bucket Bag - Zara
5.  Hair Chalk - Fudge Urban at Boots
6.  Cleanse & Polish (Jasmine and Osmanthus) - Liz Earle

In-Flight

In-flight essentials can depend where your destination is and how long you'll be on board for, but these items below are always on our lists. Taking off your make up on a long flight will benefit your skin, as the air can really dry it out. Letting your skin breathe whilst travelling is the best thing for it. We suggest getting some facial wipes, like natural brand Yes To's hypoallergenic ones to take off your make up once you get on board. This spritzer from Liz Earle is also a must-have product for us when we fly, as it's great for cooling you down and rejuvenating dry and dull skin. You want to get as comfy as possible when you're travelling, so this kit from John Lewis and a good pair of socks will help. Over-ear headphones are a must, as they're more noise-cancelling than the ear-bud kind so you won't be distracted by the noise around you whilst you chill out and watch a movie or listen to music. A tablet or iPad is also great if you have one, as you can combine so many boredom-busting things in one little device: books, games etc, so the time will fly by! (We couldn't resist a pun, sorry!)

1.  Instant Boost Skin Tonic - Liz Earle
2.  Travel Comfort Kit - John Lewis
3.  Headphones - Frends
4.  Apple iPad / Tablet
5.  Facial Wipes - Yes To
6.  Comfy Socks - ASOS

We hope this post has given you a little insight into what we take away with us on our holidays and will help you pack for your type of destination this summer!
